Internet of Things
The Internet of Things is a system. A system of interrelated computing
devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals/people that
are provided with unique identifiers,UID ( an address of the entity) and
the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring
human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

a. In your own words, define Internet of Things.
Internet of Things will decrease or eliminate
the human interventions because it is computer based, thus more accurate,
precise, and more efficient. Internet of Things
is a connection in which all of our electronic devices are connected and we can
access or control it remotely.
b. What brought this theory about?
The
concept started when a modified Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon University was
introduced in the early 1982. The machine was able to report its inventory and
whether newly loaded drinks were cold. In 1991, Mark Weiser’s "The Computer of the 21st Century",
as well as academic venues such as UbiComp and PerCom produced the contemporary
vision of IoT. In 1994 Reza Raji described
the concept in IEEE Spectrum as "small packets of data to a large set of nodes,
so as to integrate and automate everything from home appliances to entire
factories". Between 1993 and 1996 several companies proposed
solutions like Microsoft's at Work or Novell's NEST. However, only in 1999 did the field start gathering
momentum. Bill Joy envisioned Device to Device (D2D)communication as part of his "Six Webs" framework,
presented at the World Economic Forum at Davos in 1999.
c. Do you like the concept of IoT? Why or why not?
Internet of Things will make our lives easier and make us
more productive. Internet of things can also make our economy grow faster. But Internet
of Things can also have an error. Our privacy security risk will increase.
Hackers can modify the information we need given by the Internet of Things,
making Internet of Things very dangerous.
d. In what situations do you encounter IoT in the
Philippines?
I encountered Internet of Things
when my parents hire cab. They used an app called Uber and Grab to hire taxi/car
and monitor its location.
e. How do you think IoT will evolve and affect
Filipino society in the next 3 to 5 years?
In the next three to five years, I think
that the Filipino society will be more exposed to modernization. The Filipinos will be very
dependent in Internet of Things and will have easier lives
f. What do you think is the relationship / cause and
effect of IoT in media and information literacy?
With Internet of Things, we can
easily identify our problems because it provides us with information in what we
needed. Because of that, we can use that information in solving our problems
correctly.
